Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Procedure

Root canal therapy is a specialized dental procedure that aims to rescue severely damaged or infected teeth. During this treatment, we carefully remove the compromised inner tissue, cleanse the canals, and seal them to prevent further infection. Here's a brief overview:

1. Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:

  • We start by conducting a thorough examination of the patient's tooth's condition.

  • After that we review any pertinent medical history or previous dental treatments.

  • We utilize dental X-rays to evaluate the extent of any damage and to precisely determine the number and shape of the root canals. This allows us to gather crucial information about the condition of your tooth and plan the treatment accordingly.

2. Anesthesia and Isolation:

  • We carefully administer local anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort and eliminate any potential discomfort during the procedure. This ensures that the patient feels at ease throughout the treatment.

  • We then isolate the affected tooth. This helps maintain a clean and dry field, preventing contamination of the canals.

3. Access Cavity Preparation:

  • After that, we carefully create an access point using dental drills and precise hand instruments. This allows us to remove any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth, ultimately exposing the pulp chamber for further assessment and treatment.

4. Pulp Chamber Exploration:

  • We utilize specialized dental instruments with precision to systematically explore and identify all root canals within the tooth. In certain cases, we may complement this process with radiographs for enhanced accuracy and guidance.

5. Pulp Removal and Canal Cleaning:

  • In some cases, we utilize specialized dental instruments with precision to explore and identify all root canals within the tooth.

  • Then we employ a combination of hand and rotary instruments with great care to thoroughly clean and shape the root canals.

6. Irrigation and Disinfection:

  • By using antimicrobial irrigants to thoroughly flush and disinfect the root canals, we ensure all remaining bacteria is eliminated.

7. Root Canal Filling:

  • After disinfecting, we fill the cleaned and shaped canals with a biocompatible material, along with a sealer to create a hermetic seal. This prevents reinfection.

8. Temporary Sealing:

  • We seal the access cavity temporarily with a suitable temporary filling material. This protects the tooth until a final restoration can be placed.

9. Post-Operative Radiographs:

  • Taking post-operative radiographs to confirm the quality of the root canal filling and to ensure there are no complications.

10. Final Restoration:

  • Now, depending on the condition of the tooth, we recommend and provide a permanent restoration, such as a dental crown, to protect and restore function to the tooth.

11. Patient Follow-up:

  • Last step is we educate the patient on post-operative care and oral hygiene practices to maintain the health of the treated tooth.

  • After that, we suggest scheduled follow-ups appointments to monitor the healing process and assess the success of the treatment.
